What are some good music software programs to buy?

I'd like a list of as many programs as possible, for creating and mixing music, editing songs, programs with effects, and programs that have as many functions/features available. I'd like a list of any program/software that you think is decently good, ranging from FREE to 1,000 dollars. Don't you dare throw away $1000 before you have a look at NCH and the things they've got available. So many things that are free for personal use. There could be a few things there that you might be able to use. That's the only site I've ever had to use for everything I do in music.
