What is you take on the morality of software piracy?

Now most of us here at some point in their life have used pirated software. I would like to ask what is your take on software piracy? Its it really as bad as physical theft? Do you think DRM only seeks to annoy legitimate users? What do you think could be done to lower piracy rates? Insightful, intricate answers are appreciated. What is you take on the morality of software piracy? Here is my take on software piracy.

It is so ironic that when Vista was released Microsoft boasted that Vista would be almost impossible to pirate. In reality its just as easy to get a banshee copy of Vista as XP.

For example purely as an exercise just after Vista had been released I downloaded a torrent of Vista Ultimate out of curiosity, expecting WGA failure, inability to install updates etc. etc. etc. I was amazed that it not only activated but accepted updates as well.

So I wonder what happened to Microsofts claims as there are now more cases of piracy than ever, particularly in Asia where it has hit a huge scale where over a quarter of Vista installations are pirated.

Myself I uninstalled the Vista I had downloaded as I stated it was purely an exercise, besides I don't believe in stealing. BUT you can't blame people for doing it as they can save themselves a sack full of dollars.

I don't condone it, but I can understand why piracy so rife. As for getting caught UNLIKELY.

LUg.What is you take on the morality of software piracy?
When software is pirated, consumers, software developers, and resellers are harmed. Software piracy increases the risk consumer's computers will be corrupted by defective software and infected with viruses. Those who provide defective and illegal software do not tend to provide sales and technical support. Pirated software usually has inadequate documentation, which prevents consumers from enjoying the full benefits of the software package. In addition, consumers are unable to take advantage of technical support and product upgrades, which are typically available to legitimate registered users of the software. Pirated software can cost consumers lost time and more money.

Kinds of Piracy

End User Piracy -

Using multiple copies of a single software package on several different systems or distributing registered or licensed copies of software to others.

Reseller Piracy -

Reseller piracy occurs when an unscrupulous reseller distributes multiple copies of a single software package to different customers; this includes preloading systems with software without providing original manuals %26amp; diskettes.

I found this site is pretty easy, software, the top registry cleaner used among experts and computer professionals RegDefense http://www.regdefensereview.com/What is you take on the morality of software piracy?Since the advent of Code Keys it has or has the ability to stop software piracy all together.

Different Software Manufactures use different types of Code Keys and some are much better than others.

Example: Microsoft, Adobe have 2 of the best with the ability to know when a software is attempted to be downloaded on a 2nd machine by disableing both. Reading on these fourms you notice all of the supposed lost Key Codes trying to find work arounds.

10 years ago this wasn't a big deal, but since the advent of the newest technology, Software Piracy is just about finished.

Another Note: These folks trying to fiqure there work arounds are not aware that they(The Sofware Makers) know who these idiots are. What is you take on the morality of software piracy?
Well there are people out there that can't afford these software. Like me for example, I don't have 50 or more dollars to spare. So it wont make any different whether I don't buy the software or pirate it. They wont lose or gain money either way, compare to stealing a physical object where it cost to make the physical object itself. DRM only seeks to annoy legitimate users so their just losing money because most people like buy DRM free software. It think they should lower the price so that it would encourage more people to buy it.What is you take on the morality of software piracy?I agree with other users that say the biggest reason for online piracy is that products are priced much higher than their actual value. They may be priced higher than their value due to piracy but raising prices isn't the solution. It just encourages more people to convert to piracy. However, someone mentioned that online piracy is almost over with due to the fact that companies can see what "idiots" are trying to download their products. Downloading for free is legal in Sweden and they have a website called pirates bay. In fact, their have been attempts to shut down and/or block this website to other countries. It has been unsuccessful shutting the site down and I don't see it being shut down in the near future. However I do feel that stealing is stealing. At the same time, could you ask, "are outragious prices a way of stealing from the buyer?"What is you take on the morality of software piracy?
One key feature is price. Be honest, do really think a full version of Windows Vista is worth $300? I certainly don't. I understand that that it takes a lot of time for development, but when you sell millions of copies of a piece of software, you're not going to lose money. As far as music, personally I think that you should be able to download music for free. It doesn't cost you anything to listen to music over the radio so what is really the difference of listening and or downloading form the internet. I'm sure there are others that may disagree with me, this is just my opinion.
We all pay for piracy.
