What software is the best replacement for Norton Crashguard that works in XP and Vista?

I want to have a software that intercepts crashes that occurs in my PC.

I discovered Norton Crashguard can do that but it is not designed for Windows XP and Vista. What other software can do that? What software is the best replacement for Norton Crashguard that works in XP and Vista?doesn't work, toss it

the only way to prevent crashes is to properly maintain your computer. Scan for viruses weekly or monthly depending on how stup--- i mean gullible the users are :), defragment monthly, and use the program CHKDSK (check disk, it scans your hard drive for write errors) maybe every month to 2 months.

then you've got most of the maintenance down.

the majority of crashes are caused by 1. overheating because of bad hardware or lots of dust inside computer. 2. you installed new hard ware that is defective, you used an old or bad driver for it, or the hardware is incompatible with you PC, or 3. You installed new software (including viruses) that does not "flow well" with your system

to fix 1: get canned air and spray in short bursts to blow dust out of your computer. pay attention to the fan and the fan grill. try to move the PC farther from the wall and out of contact with carpet

2. When your computer crashes, the screen shows what the problem is. "Page fault" or something like that indicates a memory problem or overheating. "driver failure" or something like it means a bad driver or bad hardware, or overheating (once again, that's why you solve overheating first)

Find something you recently installed, for example a new printer, and uninstall it ,seeing if it fixes it or not. if not then keep uninstalling in the reverse order that you installed them in until you uninstall one and it works. then install the other drivers back, but don't install the bad one again. Got to the manufacturer's website and get a new driver for the printer. If the problem persists get a different or a replacement device.

to fix 3: uninstall programs you have recently installed until you find the culprit. you can a.live without that program, or b. look for a newer version that doesn't crash your PC.

for viruses, if you have a good antivirus, try scanning in normal windows. if that does not work, then go into safe mode. You go there at the boot screen by pressing F8 and selecting safemode.

then open your antivirus from there, and after a few scans it should be able to remove the virus.

congratulations you just solved the majority of crash problems

the great thing is that all this information is given to you by Microsoft whenever you get a Blue Screen Of Death, but nobody ever bothers to read it XD
